Tara P asked:

I am wanting to remove a really old carpet from a floor that has wood underneath. The wood is in OK shape and I would like to not have to refinish it right now. The carpet is coming up fine but the backing is still glued to the floor. Does anyone have any suggestions to remove it other than lots of scraping.

How do I prevent my lightweight cotton rug from sliding on a hardwood floor?

jәяsәу.♥ asked:

I have a thin, lightweight, 3×5 rug in my room. The floor is hardwood floor (but unwaxed). It is kind of like an “area-filler”, so my room doesn’t look so empty, therefore I don’t want to put anything on top of it to anchor it down. Simply walking over it causes it to slip & slide and move around. What can I do to hold it in place? Do they sell anything for things like this?

Thank you!

How long does it take to make a hooked yarn rug?

lc asked:

I’m looking for a few rugs for my place and wouldn’t mind putting a little elbow grease into it to save a few hundred dollars off a store bought rug (plus get my choice of material and colors).

Any estimates on how long I could expect it to take? How many hours per square foot, etc?

Any time saving suggestions (i.e. using tied cloth rather than yarn)?

Thanks!

I would like to remove wall-to-wall carpeting in a room to reveal hard wood underneath. I would like to preserve as much of the carpet as I can without cutting it into strips. Any suggestions?

How can I protect a carpet from moisture on the underside?

blixa22 asked:

I want to put inexpensive carpet on the floor of a storage building that has a plywood floor resting directly on the beams. Water is somehow seeping into the plywood occasionally – it appears to be from below (there is no drip from above), but underneath the building is bone dry, and because of the construction of the floor it is not feasible to tear it up and determine the source. I’d like to just ignore the problem and put in the carpet anyway. Is there a barrier material that would be suitable to put under the carpeting?

(I’m looking for a seat-of-the-pants, stopgap kind of thing — this is only meant to last 4, maybe 8 years at best, and needs to be fairly cheap. Yes, I know it’s not the ideal solution … I just need to prevent the carpet from mildewing, I don’t care what happens to the plywood since eventually the floor will need to be fixed anyway.)
By the way, it doesn’t form a puddle or anything – it just appears that the wood is damp in one spot after some, but not all, rains. It has been like this for an unknown length of time and the plywood does dry out and seems to be holding up ok

eamber246 asked:

I have this OLD area rug from my grandmother. The pattern is beautiful and the rug itself is is good condition, however I’d like to brighten it up! -Especially the white areas which have now gone yellow. Anyone have any ideas on how to clean/treat this rug and restore/brighten it without damaging it with harsh chemicals, like bleach?
