How can I fix a fray in my area rug?

Cut it then burn it? My cat ruined my rug and I would like to try and fix it rather than getting her another one to claw at. There are tons of little pulls all over it. The center of the area rug is almost like commercial-grade (tightly weaved).

You can just cut off the higher tufts with sizzorz but the folks here at use a hair trimmer. Like the ones that you would use to give someone a crew cut or sheer sheep with. Those give you the best results for keeping all the tufts the same level. Keep in mind there are glands in between the cats toes that leave a scent on the area rug. The cat will keep clawing at the same spots or in the same area it has left the scent in the past. Washing the rug, buying a scratching post and then actually taking the cats paws and rubbing them on the post might switch the cat to scratching the post. I have had a lot of cats and this only works sometimes. CHARLIE K
