How can I tell if the carpet in my apartment was recently cleaned?

The management office for our apartment told us the carpets would be cleaned a few days before we moved in. Yesterday (Sunday) was our move-in day, however, the carpets don’t look as though they were cleaned yet. I called the office today and the office maintenance log says the carpets were cleaned, but I’m not sure this is accurate. How can I tell by looking at the carpets whether they were cleaned or not? There are still lots of furniture marks in the carpet and some stains. There are also no lines where the machine would have passed on the carpets. I have two small children who literally live on the floor all day, so I want to be sure the job was done right!

Take white wet wash cloth, put it down on the carpet and press on it. If it comes up dirty.. then it wasn’t cleaned. We busted a previous landlord for this.. my friend took over my lease.. the landlord of course wasn’t thinking, and tried to claim he cleaned the carpets when he didn’t. He then tried to charge us for the cleaning fee. BUSTED!

On my website you will see a picture of before and after carpet cleaning. This is using the most common method of steam cleaning which is readily available today. If they used a dry chemical method you will not see the extraction design. Furniture marks will still be there for awhile and will come up after several vacuums. Just because they might have been cleaned doesn’t been they are clean to your satisfaction. Apartment will take the cheapest way out. The amount they are willing to pay for maintenance such as carpet cleaning and painting is a very low quality job.
The best way to be happy with the cleanliness is to have it done yourself. Most places offer a special for cleaning but will try to charge more for stain and oder treatment. blue_eye_bishop
