I need to clean a spot of urine from our oriental rug (from Dubai). It may have been a day old when I discovered it. I soaked up as much as I could with a paper towel but it has left a slight stain.

There is a spray you can buy at the pet store that removes pet stains and odors from carpets. Wal*Mart also sells it. But do try whatever you use on a very small and inconspicuous part of the rug, since some rugs may also lose some color to any stain removers, even vinegar. It’s hard to know what dyes were used on your Dubai carpet. gtk

The guy at the store where I bought my oriental rug said to lift up the rug and put a large bowl under it, and then wet it thoroughly with water with a little dish soap in it. If that’s not enough to get the stain out, go to a pet store and ask for an enzyme cleaner. this stuff really works, but you have to keep it wet.

Once it’s clean and your rinse with clear water, blot out as much water as you can and let it dry. It’s best to let air circulate underneath as well as on top. redletter2

You do not need to buy anything expensive. The ingredients you need are baking soda, vinegar, dish washing liquid, and hydrogen peroxide. This will work on both the stain and the odor. Many people swear by various commercial products and you could buy something from a pet store or from a vet, but this recipe will work just as well and won’t cost as much.

Best of luck with it. Imaka
