Diane P asked:

My dog made my area rug her personal spot and the back of the area rug is now stained and smells. It is that nylon webbing, how do I get that cleaned? I have tried sprays made for pet stains as well as Spot Shot but the nylon webbings won’t clean. Help….
This rug is a 5 by 8 room size rug.

A steam cleaner might work, that’s what I use. vandyluva1

If it is an area rug, stick it in the washer and use a strong detergent and color safe bleach. When it comes out and is dry, spray it with a pet repellent. You also need to clean the floor where the rug is at. Scrub with a good floor cleaner and if it is tile or other hard material, use chlorine bleach. Spray it also with the pet repellent.

The second step is to figure out why the dog pees in the house. If you do not let it out often enough, it may be doing it because it has no choice. Solutions for this:

    1. Install a dog door.

    2. Install a small bell near the floor that rings ever time you open the door to let the dog out. He will learn very fast that the bell ringing = door opens. He will start whacking on the bell when he wants out. That will be your clue to get up and let the dog out.

    3. Give the dog to someone who has more time for the dog. Dave

I tried tons of different products to remove urine odor from carpet but they just didn’t work the way they promised. I finally found a product that works, and it’s a simple recipe that you can make at home with household ingredients. beth k

Since it is an area rug, take it outside on your driveway or a friends and hose it down with a sprayer hose keep spraying until it runs clean. If you can find a floor squeegee, use that to help pull the extra water out of it. then get a spray bottle and mist both sides of the rug with a pet enzyme product.and let the rug dry in the sun,for the day.but don’t leave it out there any longer than that. It’ll bleach Rhea B

have you tried a product called nature’s miracle? i love it because it gets the stains and smells out from my puppy. the only problem is that you already tried a different product. if you want to look for this product, make sure you read all labeling before buying/using it on your rug. good luck. raven

I suggest a visit to your local pet store. They should carry numerous products that will actually break down the enzymes in animal messes which will stop them from smelling. I have used Natures Miracle in the past for vomit, urine and diahrrea from my pets with grat success. I would recommend shelling out the 30-40 bucks for a gallon so that it will be on hand for life’s little accidents!

Please DO NOT USE vinegar! Although it should take out the smell , the leftover trace smells are noticable to your dog and may actually entice her to begin using that spot as her bathroom – not a good thing! Boxer_gal25

It may be well too late because the other chemicals can set a stain/odor….but you need to get an ENZYMATIC cleaner, such as “Nature’s Miracle” because the enzymes eat/kill the bacteria and get out stains of any organic nature. raisedbycoyotes
