He’s a 1 year old male, and my mom bought a new rug for our bathroom, and he’s always peeing on it! I really need to get him to stop because now my mom wants to get rid of him =[ And if it helps, we have another male cat (they’re both fixed) that’s 8 or 9 years old. Thanks!

    clothespin on his wee-wee.

seriously – you just have to neuter him or really swat him and let him know it is not acceptable.

You sure the other cat didn’t mark also?? Very hard to get that smell out and other cats may mark where one already went.

Is their litter box in the bathroom??

There aare also sprays that are supposed to keep them from marking stuff. R. M

Well you do have a problem. A sarcastic answer would be to show the cat the business end of a 9mm but that probably wouldn’t go over very well.

You have a dominance issue. The younger cat is marking all the territory it can, at this point the bathroom rug, and will gradually begin moving to other places the older cat has been. Even if the older cat hasn’t marked, the scent will be there and marking will probably happen. I don’t think there is anything you can do about this other than remove one of the cats and I suggest the younger one.

Second solution. Just in case it is just the odor of the rug, go to the pet store and ask for an enzyme based odor remover. There are many brands and if I name one it might not be available in your area but they are all essentially the same and work very well. You don’t need a lot and it may be available in a spray bottle. Take the rug outside and spray it liberally on both sides, particularly where the cat has peed. I’d add a little water on those spots first. Brush the rug to work the deodorizer in and let it air. About a half hour later, do it again just to be safe. If the cat continues to mark it after that, the first solution applies. William H

Even when some male cats are fixed they will spray their urine to “mark their territory”.

Especially if the rug is new, he is making it to his scent likings.

You could try keeping the bathroom door closed when your cat is around, and reward him when he goes in the litter box, then he might get the message. paris_kitties_pink

First notice if your cat is showing other signs of other problems, like hiding away much of the time, drinks more water than usual, eating less—-things like that, as it could be a urinary infection causing him to pee on the rug. I have 3 cats of my own and have had 3 before these and at least 2 of them showed the symptoms I mentioned and they needed to be treated by a Vet right away.
Turned out to be a Urinary Tract infec.
It’s easily treated and an antibiotic will be given.

Please tell your Mom not to give up on Kitty yet!
A Vet can tell by an exam and feeling your cat’s tummy area for any swelling and get a urine sample as well to get a diagnosis.

But, in my exp. with animals, once the infection is cleared up, the ususual areas cats tend to pee in and on, quits after the inf. clears up.

    Hope this helps! julesrules

Your cat may have a urinary track infection. Please call your vet. Some medications may help this problem.

I think your Mom is over-reacting. Anna Lynn
