How do i wash a hairy rug?

We have a purpe fur rug from walmart in my daughter’s room. They have them there in purple and hot pink, so maybe someone else out there has one. There are no washing instructions on the rug, and my puppy puked on it. LOL There’s no tag saying the material or anything. All i can describe it as is a purple super fuzzy hair rug that needs washed. I’m going to try the washing machine, but I’m afraid of ruining it. Anyone have any ideas?
