How do we protect the carpet when we paint?

Lisa asked:

There is no trim along the bottom of the wall to make a barrier between the wall and the carpet. Is there some kind of way to protect the carpet and still be able to get down to the bottom without getting the carpet?
I realize taking up the carpet is an option, b ut if we do that, it won’t be as firm the the floor. Any other ideas?

umm….i used Plastic or newspaper, and just be careful, use SMALL brushes at the bottom and top if theres trim there too, ( where the trim is) and a regular roller on the rest of the walls hope this somewhat helps breezi00015

wen you buy paint at a paint store, hardware store, home depot etc.. they sell plastic floor coverings to put down on the floor. You could also use garbage bags, tarps, or old sheets or something like that. Megan C

Plastic drop clothes are cheap and you can buy then most everywhere. Get 3″ wide masking tape and put it against the wall right up to the wall-tuck it down into the corner/edge with your fingers-all the way around the room. You can then use the drop clothes-plastic if you want to toss them-or paper or even old beach towells. Paint goes thru paper and towells though so be mindful that if you’ve not painted before that your best defense against trouble is to drop cloth everywhere and take the time to do it right. Ghostmom

They sell drop cloths that you can use. Don’t get the cheapest ones, because they are so thin that any movement or changes makes them shift. The ones with a more weight to them don’t move unless you want them to move. You can also not go all the way down to the bottom of the wall and then cover it up with molding that goes over the wall and the carpet to give it a finished look. Hope you have success! get a ‘drop cloth’ from your paint store. There are several different thicknesses ..they are all inexpensive…$10.00 or less. You can get the size of your room and when you are done…roll is up and toss it. don’t get the really thin one..you want it to stay put when yu walk on it…ask the man…. also there is a tool that will hold the carpet back as you paint the bottom..ask the paint man..he will know the right brush and the right tool to use. You will want to make use of masking tape…he will know ..that’s his job…tee hee have fun! Enjoy the results..♥ ♥ ♥ sundaizie ♥

go to your local hardware store and ask them for a special tool called an edge painter it is a square tool with wheels on both sides that roll along while you paint the bottom of the wall glenn

We used plastic on the carpet, held down with blue painter’s tape. I’ve also used newspapers, etc, but the plastic and tape work well. fmckin1
