My friend has wooden open tread stairs, which had carpet pieces glued to them, this has now been replaced with another layer of wood but there is old glue on the underside of the stairs and it looks awful . Apart from sanding them, what gets rid of carpet glue on wood. Any suggestions ?

I’m assuming there was carpet on the steps at one time.
If you use solvent, the steps won’t have even coloring and they will look almost as bad as when they had glue on them.
Sanding, staining, and resealing is the only good way to do this. BPTDVG
