ProudToBeMe asked:

I have 2 cats, and they love to dig their nails into the carpets.. They pick and scratch all the time. They are slowly ruining my carpet. How do I make them stop? I do not want to get them declawed, but I do trim their nail. They have 2 scratch posts, but still choose the carpet.. Any suggestions?

I noticed my cats always scratch the same spots.. I put a rug over it and they dont do it anymore. You can also put catnip on the scratcher, they love that!

They sell some repellents but I don’t know which brands are effected than the other. The one I had use was from “Hartz” and that did not work .. so I’d stay away from that. Another option besides declawing the cat is “Soft Paws” they are little rubber claws that goes over the claws to pervent them from tearing up stuff. One thing about them are the struggle of putting them on. They come with this sort of “crazy glue” to keep them on and eventually when their claws grow back they will fall off…hope that helps.

Go to Petsmart and buy some catnip in a spray formula and come home and spray catnip on their scratching posts, also buy some double sided sticky tape available at Petsmart and place it where those two are constantly scratching the carpeet to shreds. You can also get them some dried catnip and sprinkle it over the scratching posts and watch them go into feline heaven, most cats get so excited over catnip and they love it. They usually eat in the wild. If none of that works you can resort to nailcaps for cats, just bring them with you to measure their nail size to the nailcaps to ensure that you get the correct size.

I thought it might be kind of a PITA to train my adult cat to stop scratching the carpet, so I started using Soft Claws on her. I kind of like nail caps anyway because they keep her from scratching me, snagging fabric when she kneads, etc.

buy a scratching post for them. this is their way of trying to sharpen their nails and also to trim them down and mark territory. some due this because they are bored.

I used this No Scratch product with my tiny terrors! I really liked it and think it works well. Try it or something like Dr. Foster’s ect….

    Best of luck!
