UGH !!! I know what you mean. I am in that situation everytime my dog dribbles on the carpet. Do not spend a ton of money on carpet cleaner solutions, or carpet steamers. The solution is easier than you think. It is not even industrial. All you need to do is to go to the Grocery Store and purchase a Gallon of "WHITE VINEGAR" to keep on hand. Put the proper amount onto the carpet, either by spraying it or pouring it...and PRESTO !!! No more smell. That is assuming the vinegar hit the spot :-) Good Luck ! JJ Sr.

I'm with kalikat on this one. Spray white vinegar on it and let it sit a few minutes before tossing it in the laundry.

Febreeze sucks... I'm sorry but that garbage is fancy perfume in a spray bottle. The fact that you have to use it every day just points to its lameness.

You can try an enzymatic pet odor remover as well. (I know your kids aren't pets) but these products work great! KP

Try rinsing in white vinegar. The problem is that once the boys sprinkle on it, it will get into the rubber backing and not be easy to remove. In fact, it might be better to buy inexpensive ones and throw them out after they begin to smell like urine. kalicat

I think that those rugs are germs and filth collector ,they collect urine drops etc... you either wash it once a week or remove it completely , you need to wash the toilet base and all around it with some Pinesol or any other cleaner that contains a disinfectant. Mother knows best!

I always add color-safe bleach to my load with the rugs in it to kill the germs. If you have washed it that much and it still smells, it might be easier to just get a new one--they arent that expensive. kat9375
