I have just rescued my mum’s extremely old goatskin rug from her loft and would love to be able to use it but it positively hums – is there anything that can be done?

Its a dead animal, so its bound to be a bit pongy! Take it to a specialist and they will be able to de-stink it. Janbull

You must be ‘kidding’-get it? Oh well.
I’d pop it back in the loft if I were you and let it continue to hum until it remembers the words. KEITH B

Large black bin bag, big tub of bicarbonate of soda , supermarkets sell it in baking section, sprinkle very generously on goatskin. Place in bag and leave for a few hours. The bicarb will absorb the smells. Take outside and shake very thoroughly. If possible, ie dry and breezy, leave outside to freshen up. Don’t get it wet! Ellie L
