Is Carpet or Hard wood better to put in a rental property in a lower income area?

I just got my first rehab duplex and I am wondering what to do with the flooring. Hardwood doesn’t have to get replaced all the time like carpet can, but I noticed that when we walk on the upper unit it can be very loud for the lower unit. Would carpet make a big difference in how much sound would come from kids running around etc. in the upper unit for people living below?

Question Details: We have hardwood floors, however majority of the flooring has a nice fluffy carpeting (bedroom/livingroom/dinin… How do we clean the carpet without ruining the hardwood underneath? We MUST clean the carpet – the dog got very sick today.

I have had a 5 foot archway opened up between two rooms in my house. Both rooms are carpeted, leaving flooring where the wall was. We have built up the floor in the space to match the level of the existing floors in each room. I have remnants from having the carpet installed and I am wondering how to best patch the area. Should I add padding to level off the patch with the existing carpet. Would I use two sided sticking tape or glue? Also, should the remnant be cut a little larger to blend in with existing carpet and then is there a tool to use to help it blend in? Thank you for any assistance.

I would like to pull out the carpet (I think I can do that myself) and I would like to have it replaced with something that will last a while, not give me any matinence related grief and be easy to take care of.
