I’m contemplating on getting my carpet cleaned house cleaned before I sell my house. Are carpet cleaning and housekeeping services worth the money, or can I do just as good a job myself? I don’t want to pay someone to clean, and then end up having to clean where they left off. Also, how much should I expect to pay to have my 1,800 sq.ft. house cleaned and its carpet cleaned? Thanks a million!

I could always send it out to a dry cleaner or a rug specialist, but I’d rather save the money and do it at home. Here’s a link to what a sisal rug looks like: http://www.potterybarn.com/products/p5767/index.cfm?pkey=cprwrugall.

I lived in Los Angeles county. I heard that after 5 years or 7 years, the landlord have to replace the carpet if he didn’t replace after you have lived for 5 or 7 years, the landlord can’t deduce money for the carpet or painting. So please let me know is it 5 years or 7 years?

I have two dogs and two young boys who track in lots of dirt, spill things and a puppy who still has accidents from time to time. I usually have my carpets cleaned professionally, but I would like to try to save a little money and do it myself. Any recommendations on a good carpet cleaner?

If you were having your carpets cleaned what would influence what company you chose to perform the service the most…… the lowest price, a money- back guarantee, fast drying times, or something else…….?

Can I require the seller to shampoo the carpets?

Allison M asked:

We are buying a home in which the previous owners smoked. The house smells of cigarettes but we do not have the money to replace the carpets nor do we want to because we have small children (why buy brand new carpets when there are still years of spills to come!). Can we require the sellers to have the carpets professionally cleaned? I’ve heard it can be quite pricey to have carpets cleaned for cigarette smoke as they have to use special cleaners. Will the smell eventually dissipate if we don’t have them cleaned?

What is the cost to have two area rugs (6′ by 3′) cleaned?

I just received two area rugs that are 6ft by 3ft for free through freecycle.com and the previous owner had big dogs. I don’t think beating the rugs will make the smell disappear, so I’d like to get them cleaned. Since I didn’t pay for them, I don’t mind spending the money to have them cleaned. I just want to know a ball park price range, so I know what to expect.
