How can I remove rug backing stain from carpet?

We just bought a home with a plush white carpet. The previous owner had a large rug on the carpet. When she removed the rug, it left a large, yellow stain that I presume is either rubber or glue. Any suggestions (especially real-life experience) with removing this type of stain? Thanks!

I’ve been leaving a damp cloth over it to absorb. I don’t know the exact fabric or material of the rug. It happen to land on a lighter-color stripe.
