Should I just rent a Rug Docotor? Are those machines good? Or would it be better to just hire a carpet cleaning service?

I have read on the Internet that people hire the Rug Doctor at B&Q or Homebase. I just wonder which supermarkets do have these machines or do I have to call any and ask.
We have plasticine spots in our carpet so I wonder whether the Rug Doctor is going to remove them.
Is it worth renting this machine or should we hire the carpet cleaners (end of tenancy)?

My rent is up at the end of July and I dont want to loose my deposit. I recently dropped a shisha coal on my carpet, and i, am trying everything to get it out. The carpet has a couple of melted spots. Any suggestions as replacing the carpet isnt an option.

I am planning to rent a carpet shampooer from Home Depot, does anyone know how long before I can walk on it? It will also be about 65 degrees with the heat on in the house. Do I only have to do it on a day when I can open the windows? And can I walk with clean white socks on the carpet if it is partially wet. Is there a routine I should follow in order to shampoo my carpets myself? Thanks for all your responses.
