We have a red rug which needs cleaning, but I’m no longer interested in using the harsh chemicals most commercial cleaners insist upon

This is no joke. First thing to do is to hang it outside, beat it with a stick to loosen dirt, set down on the ground and vacuum. Repeat this until you don’t see any dust from the beatings. Then you can decide whether additional cleaning is even necessary.

Alternative, take it to a rug company. They will clean for $100. prosopopoeia

When I clean my carpets I rent a cleaner and instead of buying the cleaner and defoamer, I use Joy dishwashing detergent. It only takes a small amount of Joy because it is concentrated. Sometimes I add some bleach to the solution to help. Joy i SOOO much cheaper than the other stuff. daveduncan40
