What is the best way to deep clean carpets?

I’ve read some of other people’s posts, and it seems like some say get a professional (some like Stanley Steemer, others don’t), some say to rent a carpet cleaner and do it yourself, others say to buy your own, which is the best investment in the long run. I don’t mind buying my own for $200 if they really work well, because it does seem to be cheaper in the long run. I have 2 dogs and they bring in mud and dirt into the house all the time. I’ve never had carpets deep cleaned before, so I don’t know the difference between the different services and technology. Are they all steam cleaners or no? Any information is welcome and appreciated.

Just keep in mind that carpets today are GLUED to their backing, and Steaming can actually Weaken that connection.

I would invest in a good carpet cleaner because the dogs will be tracking in all the dirt and it will be easier to have on thoes rainy days

not all carpet cleaners are the same. i it do myself because some carpet companies do a quick job. just buy a bissell carpet cleaner and go over two or three times since your carpets were never cleaned. thats what i did and now i do it once a week. and i have alot of pets running through my house. and remember to go slow and take your time.

I’ve got one of those canister carpet cleaners. It works, but I’ve found it best to do only one or two rooms at a time because it’s time consuming and carpet drying time can be long (5-7 hours).

I’ve found that most professional carpet cleaners use hot water extraction, not actual steam cleaning. For the entire house, a professional cleaner using hot water extraction works very well for our carpets. We use a local company that was recommended by a neighbor and the carpets dry within 4 hours.

We have our carpets deep-cleaned twice a year by a professional and use the canistor machine for high traffic areas every 2-3 months.

I’ve done it all, scrubbed, steamed and had professionals come and do it. Steaming will dry faster because it extracts the extra water. As far as cleaners go … your carpets are made from similar fibers as your clothing. My ex-husband worked for a cleaning service and they taught him that using a good grade of laundry detergent was not only cost effective but did a great job.

Even now when I spot clean I always use a little laundry detergent in warm water with a scrub brush. Clean as a whistle and always on hand.
